Barcham Trees Returns to RHS Chelsea Flower Show for 11th Year in Collaboration with King’s Ely
Visitors to stand PW192 will see Ely-based organisations join forces to showcase trees from a British nursery, with floral accompaniment.
As two organisations rooted in Ely, Barcham Trees and King’s Ely have built a long-standing relationship through shared projects, community engagement, and a passion for preserving and celebrating the natural environment. One of the most significant collaborations between us has been the conservation and propagation of the renowned Great London Plane of Ely.
Believed to date back to around 1674 and thought to be one of the original London planes in the UK, the tree stands within the grounds of the Bishop’s Old Palace — now home to King’s Ely Sixth Form Centre. Recognised as one of the UK’s Top 50 Great British Trees, the Ely London Plane has become an important symbol of the area’s heritage.
Since 2013, Barcham Trees and King’s Ely have worked together to propagate saplings from the historic tree, helping to preserve its legacy for future generations. Young trees grown from the Ely Plane can now be found in notable locations including the Sandringham Estate, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and Barcham’s upcoming Barn & Garden project.
Most recently, the tree received national recognition through a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant awarded to support its long-term conservation — a landmark project in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering that will also help shape future heritage tree preservation efforts across the UK.
Visitors to RHS Chelsea Flower Show will be able to find Barcham Trees on Pavilion Way at stand PW192 from 19th–23rd May. Our team will be on hand throughout the show to offer expert tree advice, demonstrate best practice planting techniques, and discuss the importance of successful tree establishment and aftercare.
We will also be introducing our brand-new Establishment Kit, designed to support healthy tree establishment after planting. The kit includes Initiate, Aqualatas, and fertiliser products that are already used across our 250-acre nursery.
We look forward to welcoming visitors to the stand and sharing this floral collaboration with King’s Ely at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
