Product details
Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’ is a compact, neat and tidy clone of the classic Small Leaved Lime, Tilia cordata.
This tree has small and shiny heart-shaped leaves which are dark green on the surface and light green on the underside.
The creamy-coloured, fragrant flowers appear in July and are a welcome addition to this attractive variety of native trees.
In the autumn time, the foliage turns a golden yellow.
Tilia cordata has a regular, pyramidal shape and maintains a strong central leader and evenly branched crown through to maturity.
The great benefit of planting a clonal selection of a native great is that you get consistency with each plant, the same height and shape can be expected from each tree planted and this is a great advantage when selecting trees for avenue planting.
This tree is a tough performer and will survive planting in a range of soil conditions, including heavy clay and urban conditions.
Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’ is a clone that was selected from a Boston Park and has been in cultivation in the UK since the 1960s.
A supertree for avenue planting, this versatile tree is a classic choice for parkland and larger gardens where space allows.
It can be maintained as a pollard or left to develop to larger proportions, given the limitations of the site.
It is not a good choice for pleaching as the branching structure is a little too ascending for this to be successful.
Mature height: 12-17m
