Field Maple is a lovely round headed native tree but we also have them available in pleached form with a clear stem of 1.8 metres and a flat frame crown 1.2m in diameter and 1 metre in height.
This makes them ideal as stilted screening above fence height in small gardens where space is at a premium. Tolerant in most free draining soils Acer campestre Pleach turns a beautiful buttercup yellow autumn colour by late October. Pleached trees are a wonderful way of instantly achieving 3 metre of screening height without sacrificing width.
They need to be pruned back to their framework each winter to retain their shape.
