Product Details

Prunus laurocerasus Novita is a form of the popular Cherry Laurel that we grow at Barcham Trees as both a standard tree and pleached specimens for screening.  These specimens have a 1.8m clear stem and crown on the top, so form a very nice screen above the fence line.

The foliage of this Cherry Laurel is green, glossy and a little darker than the Rotundifolia which makes if perfect as a dense screen, even more so when kept well pruned.  Like the common Cherry Laurel, Novita does flower, however not so much as a young tree, giving much more floriferous displays of white flowers with age.

The Pleached specimens of Prunus laurocerasus Novita have a 1.8-2m clear stem, with a flat frame above this of 1.2m x 1.2m square. The optimum planting distance between these is usually somewhere around 1.2-1.5m spacing.  At 1.2m planting distances the frames can be joined together for stability, at further than this you will need to provide something to fix the frames of the trees together.  As these Laurels can also be grown as a hedge, they can happily be pruned into shape using a hedge trimmer, however for the keener gardeners out there, you can improve the density and coverage of your Laurel pleached by more careful pruning and tying the branches onto the frame.

Cherry Laurel is a tough contender and can thrive on most soils, however it does prefer deep and fertile planting sites that are not prone to water-logging. As with all evergreen trees and hedges, be careful not to prune too early or late in the season; new growth which is encouraged after pruning must have a chance to harden up before being exposed to cold temperatures.
