Our Buxus sempervirens Arborescens are clipped into ball shapes. Size 'Small' are 80cm-1m tall. Size 'Medium' are 1-1.25m tall.

Buxus sempervirens Arborescens, also known as Box, is a large evergreen shrub which can occasionally be deemed a small tree.  This clonal selection, Arborescens, won the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002.

Box leaves are small, bright green and numerous, it has a small flower that is green-yellow in colour.

Buxus sempervirens Arborescens will thrive on most soil conditions, providing they are well drained and will live in the sun and partial shade.  In its naturalised form this tree will reach around 7m over about 40 years, however it is most commonly seen clipped into shapes, hedges and used in gardens for screening.  For those of you keen on topiary and manicured shapes, this is a perfect choice for you!

With this in mind, do be wary not to clip your Box too late in the season; this is a common foe with evergreens.  It is best to clip evergreens after the last frost and not later than mid-July.  Pruning stimulates new foliage development, which will be soft when it emerges.  If pruned too late, such soft foliage will not have hardened up enough to protect itself before the cold bites and in such cases will suffer some dieback.  Cautiously not pruning later than mid-July will prevent this from occurring!  Whilst many of you will be feeling wary about Box Blight, please do not worry as this variety is known to have some resistance.
