Light Years Behind .......Or are we?
Keith Sacre of Barcham Trees has been giving some thought to what is happening with Street Trees in Cities in the UK at present. . . .
Following his attendance at the AA conference in 2009, and in particular the presentation by Matthew Wells, Director of Tree Preservation from New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, Keith Sacre of Barcham Trees has been giving some thought to what is happening in the UK at present.
At the Arboricultural Association Conference held in Exeter in September Matthew Wells, Director of Tree Preservation from New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, gave a presentation entitled ‘New York City – A New York Perspective on Managing Canopy Cover’.
The talk was inspired, stimulating and delivered with an obvious energy and enthusiasm. The reaction of delegates I spoke to afterwards was interesting to say the least, but if possible to summarise in a single sentence it would be something like ‘Phew, we are light years behind.’ I have left outcolloquial additions which made the reactions somewhat more colourful.
This is a small exert from the Article written by Keith Sacre and Published in Essential Arb January 2010. The article concentrates on discussing the presentation given by Matthew Wells in relation to UK experiences. The full article can be downloaded below.
