Raised in Japan and introduced to the UK in 1862, this lovely cherry won the Award of Merit in 1930.

It makes a great garden tree that requires little maintenance so it is strange that it is not readily available from many nurseries.

It forms a dainty small tree with a pendulous habit similar to Betula pendula Youngii.

Tiny pale pink flowers in spring add to its appeal. Like all cherries, avoid water logged soils or soils prone to lying wet over winter.

Mature height: 3-5m
