This Flowering Cherry was raised in the USA in the 1950s

Sometimes too close to call from straight forward Prunus sargentii, this flowering cherry was raised in the USA in the 1950s and came across to be grown by European nurseries shortly afterwards.

A broadly columnar form of the species, it is of similarly low height, and is just the job where space is rather restricted.

It bears abundant, single, pink flowers in March and April, and is one of the first to take on its autumn tints of orange and crimson.

Its bark is noticeably darker than most cherries and it thrives best on free draining soils.

Mature height: 5-10m
