Prunus Pennsylvanica 'Auburn Splendour'

Species:Prunus Pennsylvanica Auburn Splendour
Common Name(s):Auburn Splendour
Tree Features:Coloured Bark,White Flower
Genus:Prunus
Seasons of Interest:Spring Interest
Shape:Rounded
Mature Size:Medium (10-15m)
Tree Type:Deciduous Broad Leaf
Tree uses:Urban Sites,Garden,Parkland Trees

A quick growing medium sized cherry with a lovely shiny bark.

The species from which this clone was created was introduced into the UK from North America in 1773.

It has the prettiness of Tibetan cherry but the lustiness of Prunus avium Plena.

It is not suited to waterlogged ground.

Although the bark on this clone is not quite as striking as that of Prunus serrula Tibetica it is a fairly close run thing.

Round headed and tough, it is an excellent choice for verge, parkland and garden planting where all year round interest is preferred.

Its flowers are white but of no great consequence compared to its reflective bark.

Mature height: 10-15m
