This cherry does best in warm, sunny and sheltered positions.

This very pretty cherry is derived from Prunus incisa and was raised by Captain Collingwood Ingram in the 1940s.

A winner of the Award of Garden Merit in 2002, its dainty foliage produces a great autumnal display of orange and reds.

A narrow, columnar, small tree, Okame produces a mass of profuse rich pink flowers in late March and early April.

It is a splendid choice for gardens and parks.

Like most of its type it is not suited to waterlogged soils.
