The leaves are randomly variegated, especially when young, with coloured creamy white leaves that are also often tinged pink.
Older leaves turn green and mysteriously newly transplanted trees show no sign of variegation either until they settle down in the second year.
For best results, hard prune the shoots in winter and you will be rewarded by a magnificent display the following growing season.
