The Serbian Spruce was widely distributed through much of Europe before the onset of the Ice Age.
It was not, however, introduced to Britain until the late 1880s. Similar in looks to a traditional Christmas tree when young, its branches adopt a graceful pendulous habit when mature.
Certainly one of the most beautiful of Spruces, this is a medium to large, slender columnar tree which grows quickly.
It tolerates air pollution, calcareous soils and is good as an evergreen street or avenue subject.
If planting in a public area my advice is to install after Christmas and not before!
Mature height: 15-20m
