A first rate fruiting crab.
Brought into cultivation in 1959, this profusely fruiting crab is a favourite for gardeners who are looking for winter interest.
In some years the fruits are so numerous that the branches can weigh too heavily with them so that the crown loses its shape.
The red leaves of this small, round headed tree contrast well with its white flowers.
These are followed in autumn by clusters of dark red crabs that often stay on the tree right through the winter.
Good for gardens and parks.
Mature height: 5-7m
