This Magnolia was bred in the US National Arboretum in 1963 and is a cross between Magnolia lilliflora and Magnolia sprengeri ‘Diva’.

It is a seedling sister of ‘Galaxy.’

A medium sized tree of conical habit formed by its ascending branches that broadens at maturity.

A great choice for gardens or parks, it produces most attractive, dark purple, tulip-shaped flowers, which are lightly scented.

Flowers emerge before the foliage.

It does best on moist, but free-draining, fertile soils and in sheltered or partially shaded positions.

Mature height: 10-15m
