The most popular form of Magnolia, widely planted in parks and gardens.

It has a long history, originating from Japan but was developed in France early in the 19th century.

It has almost become synonymous with urban gardens in England.

Usually grown as a large shrub with a broad, round habit, the large, white, purple tinted, tulip-like flowers appear in April and May before the arrival of foliage.

It tolerates heavy clay soils and is also moderately lime tolerant.

Again, we buck the trend and grow this as a single stemmed tree.
