This sweet gum cultivar is particularly reliable in Britain and won the Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
Like many of the styraciflua cultivars, the bark is smooth rather than corky.
When planted en masse the autumn effect is both sensational and long lasting.
The autumn colour of the foliage is a highly dramatic dark crimson to red.
A medium size tree, it has a tighter conical habit and larger leaves than the species.
A good choice as a street or garden tree, it does best in fertile, well drained soils, but does not thrive in chalky soils.
