Liquidambar Styraciflua (Sweet Gum) 'Acalycina'

A fast growing form of Sweet Gum introduced from China in the 1980s.

Its three lobed leaves and general habit are very similar to Liquidambar formosana but it is much hardier and it grows with a tough vigour.

most other Sweet Gum clones, it is better known for its spring and summer foliage effect than its autumn colour.

Of pyramidal form and medium height, it produces bronze-purple foliage that is retained with flushing new growth throughout the growing season.

It turns to yellow in autumn and leaves are often retained until well into winter.

Suitable for streets, avenues and parks, it does best in fertile, well drained soils. It does not thrive in chalky soils.
