Introduced in the late 1870s in won the Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
Often referred to as ‘Aurea’, it is quite a different clone being far more vigorous and able to withstand the rigours of an urban environment.
This makes a large tree with a broad, pyramidal crown if the leader is retained.
Like most ashes, it is fast growing and its twiggy branches stand out as golden in winter, preceded by stunning yellow autumn foliage.
A good choice for parks and verges. It thrives in most soils and will tolerate windswept, exposed sites, coastal locations and air pollution.
