Introduced in the early 1860s this superb cut leaf form won the First Class Certificate in 1873.
A medium tree with dissected leaves, it has a conical habit when mature and is most attractive.
Equally at home in a street, park, verge or garden.
It does best in moist soil but can tolerate the vagaries of urban conditions.
There is not much to choose between this variety and the cut leaf forms of Alnus glutinosa as all are remarkably striking and probably the pick of all the cut leaved trees we offer.
