Aesculus x carnea 'Plantierensis' Raised in France in the mid 1890s, this splendid large tree produces pale pink flowers with yellow throats in late spring.
Probably the best of the carnea types, it is resistant to many of the leaf afflictions that affect horse chestnuts from late summer onwards.
Raised in the famous Simon –Louis Frere nursery near Metz, it is a backcross between carnea and hippocastanum and being a triploid it does not produce fruit.
It does best in large open areas and makes a stately show when planted in avenues.
It thrives in all soils and tolerates air pollution but like all the species of this type it is best in the spring and early summer.
Mature height: 20m+
