Introduced in 1948 from the USA, this broadly columnar, medium sized tree has golden leaves speckled with crimson in the autumn months.
Denser than Acer freemanii Armstrong, this very worthy clone has been superseded by cultivars such as Red Sunset but still remains a good option.
It has good apical dominance, retaining its leader though to maturity.
As a cautionary note, the presence of manganese in the soil is vital for Acer rubrum types to perform.
Please refer to Acer freemanii Autumn Blaze and Armstrong if you have not got the soil to support your choice.
Mature height: 15-20m
