Acer Platanoides (Norway Maple) 'Columnare'

Species:Acer Platanoides Columnare
Common Name(s):Maple,Norway Maple
Tree Features:Low Fruit Fall
Genus:Acer
Growth Rate:Slow Growing
Seasons of Interest:Summer Interest
Shape:Narrow
Mature Size:Medium to Large (15-20m)
Soil Type:Chalk Soil,Clay Soil
Tree Type:Deciduous Broad Leaf
Tolerances:Drought-resistant,Pollution resistant
Tree uses:Urban Sites,Light Sandy Sites

Raised in France by Simon –Louis nursery in the 1850s, this slow growing cultivar has an oval/compact habit and is superb as a street tree because its columnar form needs virtually no maintenance.

The crown stays closed even when the tree is mature.

It does well on most soil types, tolerates air pollution and resists drought.

The Dutch have confused matters by calling several similar types ‘Columnare’ but by our reckoning they are all distinctly different, so beware!! From Barcham you will get the original and what we believe to be the best clone.

Mature height: 15-20m+
