Perhaps the most majestic of our native trees, Quercus Robur was once the predominant species in English lowland forests. Indeed the English Oak or Common Oak tree has become virtually a national emblem.
Very long-lived, its hard timber has been used to produce the finest furniture, from ships through to coffins.
Many superb specimens of Quercus Robur exist in our countryside but perhaps the most famous is the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest which is estimated to be some 1000 years old and weigh over 23 tonnes.
Whether Robin Hood actually took refuge in it is of debate!
Quercus robur is a large, imposing, broadly oval oak tree, heavy-limbed and long-lived.
Its deeply grained bark gives year-round appeal, and its expansive root system does best on deep, heavy soils.
A wonderful choice for parkland and large estates, it is also good in avenues and wide verges.
The English Oak Tree is a great host for supporting wildlife and its acorns are hidden and distributed by forgetful Jays.
Given the right conditions one can expect between three and four summer flushes of growth.

You may have noticed that there are 2 sets of pricing for each tree and tree size.
The purpose of this is to give a discounted price for people whom are buying in bulk (i.e. 10 plus trees).
This applies to all trees and you DO NOT need to buy all of the same tree for this discount to be applied (i.e. you can mix up the species and sizes)
This will work on the website as follows:
1. Begin to fill the basket of the trees you require. They will be added to your basket originally at the higher price.
2. Once you have 9 items in your basket, upon adding the next one (to total 10 +), the pricing from then on will automatically change to the lower pricing and be adjusted so that all of your items already selected are then at the lower price.
Once an order has been placed online, you will receive notification from Barcham Tree that your order has been received and processed.
For tree orders of ten trees or more, you should allow 5-10 working days from the date of order for delivery. For orders of less than 10 trees, 20 working days should be allowed for delivery. This is an approximation of a realistic lead time, yet we will of course endeavour to deliver your order to you as soon as is possible and convenient to you.
For "Instant" sized tree orders, we strongly recommend that suitable machinery and professional grounds people are lined up for installation and delivery of your tree(s). The trees will be delivered on either a trailer or small lorry, with the use of articulated Lorries where the order requires and/or access allows.
Delivery of the trees is to kerbside, front garden or to the nearest point where access allows, except for "Instant" sized tree orders in which machinery will be required at the point of delivery to facilitate movement to the planting position. Drivers are unable to move trees once onsite.
Following notification from Barcham Trees that your order has been processed, we will contact you to liaise regarding a suitable delivery date. Deliveries are undertaken from Monday to Friday only, with the exception of Bank Holidays.
