Extreme pH
It is important to select the correct species when the destination soil exhibits extreme pH, either high alkalinity or acidity. There are a number of species that are extremely tough growers and as such are able to tolerate extremes in pH. Extreme pH affects a trees ability to absorb nutrients and can cause stress, predispose the tree to disease and ultimately lead to failure.
Barcham recommend the following trees to tolerate soil extreme pH:
• Sorbus thuingiaca Fastigiata
For further species that are tolerant of Acidic and Alkaline conditions, please see the full list of Related Trees.
