Avenue Trees

The selection of tree species to create an avenue does not need to be restricted in any way, as many trees will give an impressive impact when planted in this manner.

Species selection for this purpose is therefore very much down to individual tastes and criteria and will thus depend upon what impact the trees are desired to have. Despite this, there is one common theme when looking to create an avenue; it needs to provide long lasting, impressive results.

In order to achieve this, the trees need to be in-situ for a lifetime, be regular at maturity and be a species that has been proven to be good for the job.

The following are a list of trees that we recommend to fulfil the above specification, but it is by no means exhaustive:

• Castanea sativa

• Platanus x hispanica

• Quercus palustris

• Tilia cordata Greenspire

• Tilia x europaea Pallida

If you feel this list does not contain the right tree for your requirement, there are many more species that are useful for avenue planting.  Please see the Related Trees section for further ideas.
