Tree of the Moment - Spring Time
Spring is in the air!
At any one time of year, there are always tree species that catches your eye. Be it for stunning autumn foliage or delicate flowers. For Spring, our Tree of the Moment is Prunus Shirofugen.
As the days become longer and a little less crisp, nature springs into life! The blossoming of cherry trees is a magnificent part of the transition from winter to spring and can be seen on a widespread scale throughout the U.K. Japanese cherries are renown for their delicate beauty and with the staggered emergence of the flowers of the many different species, can be enjoyed for a prolonged period throughout the spring.
Prunus Shirofugen is a stunning white flowered Japanese Cherry introduced to the U.K in around 1900. The flower buds produced are pink, opening to white, gradually turning pink again with age. This cherry has flowers that are long lived in comparison to others and therefore it is a welcome selection for any project. The new foliage appears bronze in colour and emerges with the flowers, gradually becoming green as they mature. This stunning beauty is small, reaching up to 10m in height, and forms a spreading, flat topped specimen.
After a bleak and long winter this cherry is a welcome reminder of the enchanting beauty that nature has to offer as the year moves into the luciousness of summer.
