Barcham Trees, container tree specialists since 1980
Having pioneered container tree production in white containers Barcham are able to offer expert advice on all aspects of tree planting and tree supply. Whether you have a question about species choice, suitability of particular trees for particular aspects, combinations of trees to be used together, trees suitable for barrier or screen planting or any other specific requirement our sales and or production team will be able to offer expert advice. This includes where appropriate and required, site visits, with the cost of such visits off set against any tree order subsequently placed.
Our team have a vast cumulative experience of working in both the private and public sectors as well as the nursery industry.
Mike Glover graduated from Writtle Agricultural College in 1990 with an HND in Commercial Horticulture. Awarded the Wilfred Cave Scholarship by the Royal Bath and West Society the following year to study Instant Garden Techniques in California, He returned to the UK to take up a position with Barcham Trees where he is now Managing Director.
Patented the Light Pot in 2003 in both Europe and the States with the aim to produce sustainable root systems which are lacking in the traditional Black Pot production. Barcham Trees is now the largest nursery of its type in Europe.
Trained at Writtle Horticultural College achieving a HND in commericial horticulture, then went to work for Hilliers Nurseries, the industry leader. Joined Barcham in 1998 and focussed on production and human resources. At that time, Barcham stocked 35,000 cotainer trees. Became Production Director in 2001, and now concentrates on production and procurement.
Keith Sacre has an extensive local authority background working both in London and Essex as Nursery, Parks and DSO Manager. Joined Notcutts nurseries in 1989 as a sales executive working in the local authority market and was heavily involved in the development of Notcutts Air Pot Unit. Joined Barcham Trees in December 2001 and is now Sales Director. Has a Bsc Hons and DM5.
David left School in 1978 and joined an apprentice scheme with Nottcutts, subsequently gaining horticultural qualifications at Otley and Hadlow colleges. David holds a CPC in Road Haulage and worked for Notcutts 26 years, in the early stages in dispatch and during the later years selling trees to Barchams. David Joined Barchams in 2004 looking after Landscape contractors and general enquiries.
David is based in Suffolk and is available to perform site visits offering advice on species selection, planting and aftercare.
Julie Tenney has been with Barcham since, well who knows when, having seemingly been there for ever.
Beginning her career working on the nursery she has quietly worked alongside others in developing the company. Well known for her ‘whacky ideas’ it was Julie who first thought of bringing Claus Mattheck to the nursery in 2005.
Julie is responsible for the local authority market and has developed an experience and knowledge of that sector.
Studied Arboriculture at Askham Bryan College gaining OND Arb and RFS Arb. His middle year at college was spent with Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council developing his climbing skills and knowledge of local authorily systems.
After college he spent eight years as a self employed Arboricultural contractor. He then moved to Notcutts Nurseries to work as Sales Executive responsible for sales in the North of England. After 12 years he moved onto Farplants carrying out similar responsibilities for his new company.
Joined Barcham in 2005 and is based near Knutsford in the North West
Jules Baird spent 13 years in retail sales prior to joining Barcham in August 2001.
Having a real interest in horticulture she spent much time working on a whole sale bedding plant nursery, at weekends and in her spare time.
Since joining Barcham Jules has developed her tree knowledge taking advantage of internal development opportunities offered by Barcham.
Ellen joined Barcham in May 2005, having recently completed a degree in Environmental Science at Southampton University.
Since joining Barcham Ellen has developed her tree knowledge in line with the Barcham ethos and is currently furthering her development by studying for a Foundation Degree in Arboriculture online with Myerscough College.
Joined Barcham in 2001 after working 14 years at Hillier Nurseries, focussing on production of hardy nursery stock and managing large teams. Kevin is now production manager and is responsable for staffing and quality control.
Lee Oakey began his horticultural career at Riseholme College near Lincoln studying forestry.
After college he spent three years working in Suffolk doing forestry and tree surgery, Joined Barcham in January 1991 to work on the nursery but was promoted to Despatch Manager in January 1995.
Wesley Dyer has been with Barcham for seven years after spending several years as a team leader in the retail trade. He began life at Barcham as a team leader in the despatch department.
Within the last six months Barcham has also established three regional offices to enable a closer and more responsive service to be offered to customers. Keith Sacre is based in Lewes in East Sussex, Andrew Dunkley is based in Cheshire while Dave Johnson is based in Earls Soham, Suffolk. All three spend time at the nursery in Ely and can still be contacted on the main office number.
