How to secure trees post planting

It is very important to secure trees following planting due to the fact a newly planted tree does not have any stabilising roots and thus will take time to grow some before being efficient at anchoring itself against the elements.

Failure to anchor a tree properly following planting may result in the tree being liable to falling over or breaking if subjected to high winds.

There are a number of methods of securing trees:

1. Double Stakes and Ties
2. Stakes, crossboards and blocks
3. Under ground guying systems.

At Barcham, we have compiled a planting kit and guide that is orientated towards planting in Soft Landscapes (Gardens etc) and thus for these instances we recommend using the Double Staking and Tie method.

Under-ground guying is useful in hard landscaping environments and are extremely effective where staking may be inappropriate, however it is important to note that only large trees of 150L and above can be secured using under-ground guying systems.
