Introduced in the States in 1948.
I first saw this tree in Portland, Oregon, growing in narrow pavements and thriving. Although its autumn colour is not as vivid as other Acer rubrum varieties we list, it still produces a fair show of yellow and orange leaves in October. Introduced in the States in 1948, this superb urban clone has never caught on in the UK and I am at a loss to understand why!
Its symmetrical ascending habit makes it an ideal subject for city planting where space is at a premium and we introduced it into our range in 2010. Its shape resembles a Lombardy Poplar as it can reach 10 metres in height with a width only of 3 metres.
A low maintenance Acer that is more controlled than Acer platanoides Columnare.
